Frequently asked questions
What is the right to be forgotten?
It is the right to ask a search engine such as Google to stop showing certain results when your name is searched, if the information is inaccurate, outdated, irrelevant or excessive. It rests on the right to erasure in Article 17 of the GDPR and on the case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union.
How do I remove personal information from Google?
There are several routes, depending on where the content is: a right to be forgotten request to Google so it stops showing the result when your name is searched, a removal request to the website or platform hosting it, a legal removal when it is defamatory or unlawful and, if Google refuses, a complaint to the AEPD. We assess your case and choose the route or combination with the best chance.
Can my name be removed from Google?
You can ask for the results that harm you to stop appearing when someone searches your name, but not for your name to disappear from Google altogether. Each result is assessed individually and the decision lies with Google or the AEPD, which is why we start with a feasibility analysis.
Is the content deleted from the Internet?
Not necessarily. With the right to be forgotten against a search engine, the result stops appearing when your name is searched, but the original page may still exist. When the content is hosted on a service that allows its removal to be requested (a platform, a news outlet, a hosting provider) we also act at the source. We explain what to expect in each case.
Do you guarantee removal?
No, and be wary of anyone who does. The final decision lies with Google, the platform, the outlet or, where applicable, the AEPD. What we offer is rigorous, well-grounded, documented work with follow-up until a reply is received. We have obtained the removal of numerous pieces of content, but timings and results depend on each case.
What content is hard to remove?
Information of public interest, such as certain convictions, sanctions or relevant professional conduct, is usually refused. That is why we start with an analysis that assesses how viable each result is before filing anything and, if there are no options, we do not take the case.
What happens if Google refuses the request?
We study the reason for the refusal. Where appropriate, we file a complaint for protection of rights with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD), with a copy of the request and of the reply received. If the case requires it, we assess court action with a lawyer.
How long does it take?
It depends on the type of content and the route. As a guide, reviews usually take 1 to 3 weeks, links on Google 2 to 8 weeks and news articles somewhat longer, 3 to 10. If we have to go to the AEPD the process is longer: the controller's reply must be awaited before complaining and the Agency then has its own deadline to resolve. In the free analysis we give you an estimate for your case.
How much does it cost?
The analysis is free and with no obligation. After that, each case is quoted individually, because the cost depends on the number of results, the type of content and the route needed. You receive a fixed quote in writing, and larger jobs can be paid in instalments with no interest.
Is it legal?
Yes. We work only through legal routes: platform rules, the GDPR, the LOPDGDD, the right of rectification and the Digital Services Act. We do not pay media outlets or post fake reviews.
What if the content appears again?
We can file a new request. Reputation monitoring detects new appearances and the conditions are set out in the quote.
Is it confidential?
Yes. Your case stays within our team, we sign a confidentiality agreement if you need one and we do not name our clients.
What do you need from me to start?
For you to tell us the case. To file requests, your identification and your written authorisation to act on your behalf, since Google and the AEPD verify the identity of the applicant. We work under a data processing agreement and with the data protection safeguards required by law.
What about intimate images or videos, or sextortion?
Do not pay and do not delete anything. Write to us: the first consultation is free and we help you with the AEPD priority channel for the urgent removal of sexual or violent content shared without consent. If a crime is involved, you should also go to the police.
The information on this page is for guidance only and is not legal advice. The outcome of each request depends on the decision of Google, the platforms, the news outlets or the AEPD and cannot be guaranteed.
